The first model in the list is the 9-seater variant of the Kia Carnival, the Kia Carnival Prestige 9 STR. Aesthetically, the model sports an iconic and luxury look thanks to the stylish grille with chrome inserts, sleek LED lamps and the elegant powered tailgate. Inside, the 9-seater Carnival employs a spacious cabin with a host of high-end features and premium comforts that set it apart from other variants. They involve a two-way electrical lumbar support for the driver, second-row sliding seats, third-row sliding, and reclining seats, and fourth-row pop up sinking seats. Additionally, the 9-seater also features many safety essentials, including the brake assist, electronic stability control (ESC), hill assist, roll-over mitigation, among others.

Performance-wise, the Kia Carnival Prestige 9 STR is powered by a BS6 2.2-litre VGT diesel engine mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox. With this 4-cylinder diesel unit, the Carnival MUV can churn out 200PS of power and 440Nm of torque with an ARAI-rated mileage of 14.11 kmpl. Priced at Rs 29.95 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi), the Kia Carnival Prestige 9 STR indirectly competes with the Toyota Fortuner 2.8 2WD AT, the Ford Endeavour Titanium 4X2 AT, and the MG Gloster Super 7-Str.

Mahindra Bolero Power Plus

Priced: Rs 8.52 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi)

Joining the list of 9 seater cars in India also comes the Mahindra Bolero Power Plus. Introduced back in 2016, the Mahindra SUV now comes with both 7-seater and 9-seater variants. Visually, both versions share the same rugged build quality and chic design. Notable features include the adjustable headlights, manually-adjustable rearview mirror, speed control front AC, heater, and electronic multi-tripmeter. In terms of safety, Mahindra offers its Bolero Power Plus SUV with a newly-added safety kit with ABS, a speed warning system, rear parking sensors, among others.

Talking about the powertrain, the 9-seater Mahindra Bolero Power Plus is equipped with a BS4 1.5-litre DI turbocharged diesel engine that churns out 63 BHP of power and 185 Nm of torque. Paired with a 5-speed MT, this diesel unit allows the SUV to reach a claimed fuel efficiency of 15.96 kmpl.  Initially, the 9-seater Mahindra Bolero comes at Rs 8.59 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi). However, under the stricter BS6-compliant norms, the model has been discontinued. Currently, the Mahindra 9-seater SUV is only available in the second-hand market.
