1. Renault Kiger

Expected launch: March 2021

Expected price: Rs 5.50 lakh

The first upcoming 5 seater SUV in India to be mentioned is the Renault first sub-4-meter SUV. Rumored to be called the Renault Kiger,  the upcoming SUV will be based on the French carmaker’s CMF-A+ modular platform, which also underpins the Triber. In its unveiled avatar, the Kiger is also said to look identical to its Magnite cousin in many ways. Specifically, the upcoming Renault model will bring in a host of key features seen on its Nissan cousin, including the iconic front grille, stylish headlamps, DRLs, a set of tremendous 19-inch alloy wheels, and the C-shaped LED tail lamps. 

Inside, the Kiger is expected to be a feature-rich SUV. While it is yet to be known what will be offered in the cabin, the upcoming Kiger is likely to be loaded with a plethora of the latest tech and comforts.

Under the hood, the all-new SUV will be powered by a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbo petrol-only unit that can make 96BHP of power and 160Nm of torque. Transmission-wise, it will be available in both 6-speed manual and CVT versions. The Renault Kiger will be rolled out in March 2021 at an estimated price of Rs 5.50 lakh. If launched, it will challenge the Kia Sonet, Tata Nexon, Ford EcoSport, and the upcoming Tata HBX.

2. Tata HBX

Expected launch: March 2021

Expected price: Rs 5 lakh

Initially showcased at the Auto Expo 2020, the Tata HBX micro SUV is another upcoming 5 seater SUV in India in 2021. The new HBX will be based on Tata's ALFA modular platform and the Impact 2.0 design, which also underpins the Altroz. Visually, the upcoming Tata micro SUV will come with the Harrier-inspired split headlamp setup with the DRLs on top of the main lighting units. Apart from that, it will also employ the new-age tech roof-mounted spoiler, full-LED tail lamps, and a set of chunky-looking alloy wheels. 

Inside, the HBX SUV is expected to boast of a well-equipped cabin, best-in-class connectivity features, and a highly-capable infotainment system.

Talking about performance, the HBX is likely to bring in the BS6-compliant 1.2-litre Revotron petrol engine carried over from the Altroz. With this 3-cylinder petrol unit in place, the upcoming 5-seater SUV will develop 86PS of power and 113Nm of torque. Meanwhile, it will also be available with a 5-speed manual and get a choice of an AMT. Priced at an estimated Rs 5 lakh onwards, the HBX will be put under the Nexon in Tata’s lineup. It is expected to be launched by March 2021 and will take on the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Ignis, the Mahindra KUV100, and the Renault Kiger.
